À propos de l'auteur

John Richard Hersey (1914–1993), auteur de Hiroshima et lauréat du prix Pulitzer, a été le pionnier de la fiction documentaire mêlant journalisme d'investigation et profondeur narrative. Né à Tianjin, en Chine, de parents missionnaires, Hersey s'est appuyé sur ses expériences de correspondant de guerre pour Time et Life pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale pour façonner des récits humanistes et saisissants de catastrophes. Hiroshima, son œuvre phare de 1946, reconstitue le bombardement atomique à travers les perspectives de six survivants, établissant le style immersif du Nouveau Journalisme tout en abordant les thèmes de la résilience et de la responsabilité morale.
