John Michael Crichton (1942–2008) était l'auteur à succès derrière Eruption et un maître du genre techno-thriller, connu pour mélanger harmonieusement la science de pointe avec l'aventure palpitante. Médecin formé à Harvard ayant obtenu son diplôme en 1969, Crichton a choisi l'écriture plutôt que la pratique médicale.
