Historical evidence shows economic growth precedes democracy, not vice versa-poorer countries struggle to sustain democratic systems, with democracies in nations with per-capita income under $1,000 lasting an average of just 8.5 years.
Citizens in emerging markets increasingly doubt liberal democracy and free market capitalism after witnessing Western geopolitical uncertainty, economic volatility, slowing growth and worsening inequality.
