Louise Penny est l'auteure à succès de Sous la glace et une écrivaine de polars internationalement reconnue, célèbre pour sa série primée mettant en scène l'inspecteur-chef Armand Gamache.

Née à Toronto en 1958, Penny a passé 18 ans comme journaliste et animatrice radio à la Canadian Broadcasting Corporation avant de quitter son poste en 1996 pour se consacrer pleinement à l'écriture. Après avoir lutté pendant cinq ans avec la fiction historique, elle a trouvé sa vocation dans le roman policier, s'inspirant d'auteurs classiques du genre comme Agatha Christie et Dorothy L. Sayers.

Ses intrigues centrées sur les personnages, situées dans le village fictif de Three Pines au Québec, mélangent des éléments de « cozy mystery » avec une profondeur psychologique et explorent des thèmes universels tels que l'amitié, la perte et la rédemption. Penny a remporté le prix Agatha à six reprises et a reçu l'Ordre du Canada en 2017 pour sa contribution à la culture canadienne.
