James Redfield is an American author whose work explores spirituality, psychology, and human potential, best known for The Celestine Prophecy and its sequel series, including The Tenth Insight and The Twelfth Insight. The Celestine Prophecy became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller and sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.
James Redfield, born on March 19, 1950, grew up in a rural area near Birmingham, Alabama, in a Methodist setting that he later described as warm and community-minded but not fully satisfying his deeper questions about spiritual experience. He studied sociology at Auburn University, later earned a master’s degree in counseling, and spent more than fifteen years working as a therapist with abused adolescents. During those years he also immersed himself in Eastern philosophy, especially Taoism and Zen, while exploring the human potential movement. That mix of counseling, spirituality, intuition, and social thought became the foundation of his later work as a novelist and teacher.
