Anna Quindlen

Né(e): July 08, 1952 – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States

Anna Quindlen is an American author and journalist whose fiction and nonfiction examine family life, motherhood, ethics, and contemporary social issues. A former New York Times columnist, she won the 1992 Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Her notable books include One True Thing, Black and Blue, and A Short Guide to a Happy Life.

Biographie et Parcours de l'Auteur

Anna Quindlen was born in Philadelphia in 1953, the eldest of five children in a family shaped by both Irish American and Italian American roots. She grew up with an early ambition to write, and while studying at Barnard College she began reporting for New Jersey’s The Home News and then for the New York Post. The decisive early turning point in her life came at nineteen, when she left college temporarily to care for her mother, who was dying of cancer. That experience stayed central to her emotional and moral imagination. After completing her B.A. in 1974, she worked full time at the Post and then moved to The New York Times in 1977, entering the profession during a period when women were pushing more forcefully into newsroom authority and opinion writing.
