The Third Eye: Gateway to Ancient Wisdom and Modern Awakening
In a world where spiritual seekers are constantly bombarded with conflicting information, Vera Stanley Alder's "The Finding of the Third Eye" stands as a beacon of clarity. Since its publication in 1938, this remarkable work has influenced countless seekers, including celebrities like David Bowie, who cited it as transformative to his spiritual journey. The book's enduring popularity-having never gone out of print in over eight decades-speaks to its timeless relevance. As we navigate an era of unprecedented spiritual awakening and scientific discovery, Alder's synthesis of ancient wisdom traditions with modern understanding offers a practical roadmap for those sensing there must be more to existence than our material reality reveals. Her work bridges Eastern and Western spiritual approaches at a time when humanity stands at the threshold of a new consciousness-what she identifies as the dawning Aquarian Age.

The Universe as Vibration: Science Meets Ancient Knowledge
Everything in existence consists of vibrations-energy oscillating at different speeds and frequencies. This fundamental principle, long taught in ancient wisdom traditions from India to Egypt, now finds remarkable validation in modern quantum physics and string theory. Our physical senses detect only a narrow band of these vibrations: ears perceive sound waves between 20-20,000 Hz, skin registers thermal radiation, and eyes capture just a tiny slice of the electromagnetic spectrum as visible light. Yet beyond these limited perceptions lies an entire spectrum of finer vibrations using ether as their vehicle rather than air, ranging from infrared to gamma rays and beyond.
The human body contains specialized organs designed to perceive these subtler realms, acting as biological antenna for higher frequencies. The Pituitary Body (located behind the root of the nose in the brain) and Pineal Gland (containing specialized photoreceptive cells similar to the retina) function as sophisticated receivers for higher psychic vibrations. When properly developed and stimulated through specific meditation practices and lifestyle adjustments, these glands merge their energies to awaken what mystics call the "Third Eye"-the eye of the soul. This activation allows perception of thought-forms, energy fields, auras, and spiritual entities invisible to ordinary sight.
Ancient Egyptians understood this science perfectly, maintaining elaborate training systems in their mystery temples. Initiates underwent years of preparation, including dietary restrictions, breathing exercises, and specialized meditations to develop this psychic center. Through disciplined practice, humans can access increasingly subtle vibrations, from the measurable electromagnetic fields of thought to the highest spiritual forces capable of instantaneous healing and transformation. However, these latent powers only function when undisturbed by inharmonious vibrations from poor habits, negative emotions, or unbalanced living. Modern research into neuroplasticity and bioelectromagnetic fields suggests these ancient practices may indeed influence brain structure and function.
What's remarkable is how modern science now confirms what mystics have always claimed-matter itself is merely energy in motion, expressing as different frequencies of vibration. Einstein's E=mc2 equation mathematically proved this unity of matter and energy. Quantum physics reveals that at the subatomic level, particles exist as probability waves until observed, sharing the same fundamental nature as thought. When we understand this principle, we begin to see how focused thought can directly influence physical reality through resonance and entrainment, and how developing our subtle perception organs might open doorways to dimensions beyond ordinary awareness. Recent studies in quantum biology are even finding evidence of quantum effects operating in biological systems, suggesting our bodies may be far more attuned to subtle energy fields than previously believed.
This convergence of ancient wisdom and cutting-edge science points to vast untapped human potential waiting to be awakened through conscious development of our subtle energy systems. The key lies in understanding and working with the vibratory nature of reality itself.

The Four Great Laws: Universal Principles of Existence
Four fundamental laws govern all existence, forming the foundation of the Ancient Wisdom that has been preserved through countless generations. Understanding these laws provides the framework for comprehending our place in the cosmos and the purpose of our evolutionary journey.
The Law of Repetition reveals that the same patterns of form, time, and motion run throughout the entire universe-"As above, so below; as within, so without." An atom mirrors a solar system, and within the human body, the entire universe is represented in miniature. This principle explains why ancient temple doors bore the inscription "Man, Know Thyself"-because by understanding our own nature, we gain insight into the workings of the entire cosmos.
The Law of Evolution shows that everything progresses upward from unconscious elementary forms toward higher, more perfect states through striving and sacrifice. This progression moves from minerals (with elementary consciousness) to plants (with higher vibration) to animals to humans. Each kingdom serves as nourishment for the one above while receiving something essential in return. Advanced humans sacrifice their lower nature to reach higher spiritual states, depending on subtler angelic minds for inspiration, while these higher beings depend on human "soul-force" for their own development.
The Law of Karma and Rebirth ensures that nothing in life is wasted-all beings have the opportunity to gain ultimate perfection. Just as plants die and reform in new growth with improved adaptability, human consciousness is continually reborn, developing through countless lessons until reaching superhuman power. This explains prodigies (continuous effort in past lives), disabilities (karmic results of past actions), and ensures perfect justice as we reap exactly what we've sown.
The Law of Creation reveals that our solar system is built upon an orderly numerical system with seven graded types of matter or planes. These planes meet in a sequence of interpenetrating vibrations that modern scientists are only beginning to explore. While science has discovered vibrations from sound to X-rays-all within just the physical plane-the ancients understood seven complete worlds of different life-forces interpenetrating each other.
These laws aren't abstract theories but practical principles that, once understood, transform our approach to life. They explain why certain experiences recur in our lives, how we can consciously accelerate our evolution, and why developing higher perception allows access to realms beyond physical limitation.
Kapitel 4
Our Multidimensional Nature: Beyond the Physical Form
Modern science recognizes the physical body as our only vehicle, but ancient wisdom traditions across cultures - from Vedic teachings to Hermetic philosophy - reveal we possess multiple "bodies" functioning across different planes of existence. Each of these bodies corresponds to specific aspects of consciousness and allows us to operate in different dimensions of reality, much like radio waves of varying frequencies coexisting in the same space.
The physical body, made of chemicals in solid, liquid, and gaseous states, is interpenetrated by an etheric body composed of four distinct ethers: the life ether, chemical ether, light ether, and reflective ether. This etheric double forms an intricate web of energy channels, similar to meridians in Traditional Chinese Medicine, through which life-forces flow from the universe into our physical form. These forces regulate vital processes like breathing, circulation, and cellular regeneration. Together, these constitute our physical plane equipment, forming the foundation of our earthly existence.
The astral body, also known as the emotional or desire body, operates in the realm of emotions and desires, containing the subtle substance that motivates our actions and reactions. This body becomes particularly active when we experience strong emotions like love, fear, or anger that can override rational thought. During sleep or deep meditative states, the astral body can temporarily separate from the physical, appearing as what others might perceive as a "ghost" or luminous double. The astral world contains counterparts of physical objects in its densest regions, while thoughts and feelings manifest as dynamic, shimmering colors in its subtler areas - from deep reds of anger to brilliant blues of spiritual devotion.
The mental body functions in the world of thought, with its densest layer containing our concrete thoughts about daily life and its finer strata accessed during abstract thinking and spiritual contemplation. These higher levels are used by cosmic intelligences for universal planning and creative processes. Beyond this lies the causal body - the permanent vehicle of the soul and home to the true individual or Ego who uses the lower bodies as instruments for experience and growth. When these vehicles are harmonized under the Ego's conscious control, one achieves mastery over matter and energy.
The ancient Egyptians demonstrated sophisticated understanding of these multiple bodies through precise symbolism in their hieroglyphic system: the physical body as KAT (represented by a dead fish, indicating its temporary nature), the etheric double as KA (depicted by a breast with upstretched arms, suggesting life force), the astral body as BA (illustrated as a human-headed bird symbolizing freedom of movement through space), and the immortal spirit as a lotus rising from darkness to light, representing spiritual evolution.
This multidimensional framework explains numerous phenomena that conventional science struggles to account for - from near-death experiences and out-of-body travels to psychic perceptions and spiritual healing. It also illuminates why genuine spiritual development requires working with all our bodies in harmony, not just the physical vessel. Through systematic training in meditation, energy work, and consciousness expansion, we can maintain awareness across these dimensions, eventually achieving the unbroken consciousness that characterizes the fully awakened human being.
Kapitel 5
The Dance of Polarity: Male and Female Principles
Sex represents the fundamental positive-negative polarity that drives all creation in the universe. The male embodies the positive electrical quality - dynamic, outward-moving, and initiating - while the female represents the magnetic, receptive negative quality. Here, "negative" refers to reserve force and potential energy, not weakness or inferiority. When these complementary polarities fuse, powerful creative action occurs.
This dynamic operates throughout the cosmos, from the grandest celestial bodies to the tiniest chemical cells. Like an electric pole with positive and electrical sides, when the magnetic side contacts the positive side, combustion generates force. This process drives planetary rotation, as seen in the electromagnetic interactions between the sun and planets. It powers everything from vehicle engines through spark plugs to chemical reactions in batteries. This same principle enables reproduction in nature, from human conception to plant germination and growth through pollination.
Within our physical bodies, acids represent the positive male principle, manifesting in muscles and action potential, while alkalis embody the female principle, showing up in blood and power storage systems. When these chemical polarities maintain proper balance, health and vitality prevail. At death, this delicate balance collapses as acids flood the alkaline blood when the polarizing life force withdraws from the body.
Every person contains both masculine and feminine qualities - the right side being electric/active, the left magnetic/receptive - with these polarities subdividing infinitely down to cellular and atomic levels. The brain itself demonstrates this duality: the left hemisphere exhibits more analytical, structured "masculine" qualities while the right shows more intuitive, creative "feminine" characteristics. When these aspects are coordinated through focused mental training and meditation, they produce inspired, creative thinking and heightened consciousness.
The Creative Force (Kundalini) within us can be directed either toward physical procreation or sublimated upward toward mental and spiritual creation. When purified through disciplined living, proper diet, and spiritual practices, this "serpent of fire" rises through the spine's energy centers to energize the brain's masculine-feminine principles, bringing heightened inspiration and wisdom. This explains the profound connection between the Pineal and Pituitary glands, which regulate both intellectual capacity and sexual development - they're connected through this single creative force.
Men and women complement each other energetically across multiple dimensions. Men have positive masculine physical bodies but feminine negative etheric bodies, while women possess negative feminine physical bodies but positive male etheric bodies. In the emotional realm, men's bodies are masculine and controlled, while women's are negative and naturally absorptive of emotional energies. Intriguingly, men's mental bodies have predominantly feminine qualities while women's have masculine qualities, creating a complex interweaving of polarities.
When men and women work together harmoniously, their seven subtle bodies - physical, etheric, emotional, mental, and higher spiritual bodies - merge creatively, stimulating inspiration and innovation even without physical or sexual contact. The coming Golden Age will be founded upon perfect working units of Woman-Wisdom-Strength and Man-Power-Action, each respecting and enhancing the other's natural qualities. Understanding these fundamental polarities helps us better balance our own nature and create more harmonious relationships with others, leading to both personal growth and collective evolution.
Kapitel 6
Breathing, Sound and Color: Tools for Transformation
Breathing is far more profound than commonly understood. Ancient wisdom tells us creation began when the Creator "breathed upon the waters." Not only humans but plants and metals breathe, and even the sun breathes in eleven-year cycles. Proper breathing involves uplifting the chest rather than downward abdominal breathing, providing gentle massage to internal organs.
The rate of breathing determines our state of being. Normal breathing is sixteen to eighteen breaths per minute. Increasing to twenty-six light breaths makes pain impossible to feel. Slowing to ten to twelve breaths prevents irritability. Further slowing to ten breaths per minute brings mental clarity, while three breaths per minute enables psychic perception. Yogis can slow to one breath per minute for intense concentration, and eventually suspend breathing entirely.
Eastern traditions teach that we typically breathe through only one nostril at a time, alternating between positive (right/sun-ruled) and negative (left/moon-ruled) currents along the spine. This knowledge allows regulation of body temperature and connects to astrological cycles.
Sound functions as the intermediary between abstract idea and concrete form. Sounds mold the ether into shapes through which power impresses itself on physical matter. Every object and person has a key-note; when sounded gently, it heals, but harsh sounding can destroy. The eidophone instrument demonstrates how sounds create natural forms in paste or geometric patterns in sand.
Colors are vibrations that our optic nerves interpret. The seven color rays in white light continuously pour upon Earth from the seven major planets, each radiating its own chemical constituents. Mars corresponds to red (lowest vibration, heat-giving), linked to iron and vitality. Orange (Sun) stimulates emotions, yellow (Mercury) activates the nervous system and intellect, green (Saturn) provides stability, blue (Venus) soothes, indigo acts as intermediary, and violet (Jupiter) represents spiritual aspiration.
These three tools-breath, sound, and color-provide practical means for transformation. By regulating our breath, we can alter our consciousness. By understanding sound's creative power, we can heal and harmonize. By working with color, we can balance our energies and stimulate specific qualities. The ancients used these tools systematically in their temples; we can reclaim this knowledge for our own development.
Kapitel 7
Awakening the Third Eye: The Path to Direct Perception
The Third Eye, known in Eastern traditions as the Ajna chakra, serves as a gateway to expanded consciousness and direct spiritual perception. This dormant faculty allows one to perceive thoughts as tangible forms, access the Akashic records containing earth's complete history, and transcend conventional limitations of time and space in the Fourth Dimension. Like a spiritual telescope, it enables perception beyond physical reality into subtle realms of existence. The dedicated Yogi or Sage must undergo systematic training through established methods passed down through ancient lineages to reactivate this powerful center.
Truth-seeking through the Third Eye demands unwavering purity in both intention and daily living practices. This includes maintaining ethical conduct, practicing non-violence in thought and deed, speaking truth, and cultivating emotional stability. The aspirant must develop mastery over the brain through specific exercises, similar to how an athlete conditions their body. These include pranayama (breath control), pratyahara (sensory withdrawal), and dharana (concentration exercises). Just as a dancer spends years training muscles to move with precision, the spiritual seeker must train mental faculties with equal dedication and discipline.
The mind's power lies in its ability to focus, much like a laser beam concentrating light into an intense, penetrating force. When scattered across multiple objects, mental energy dissipates like diffused light. Through one-pointed concentration (ekagrata), the mind becomes a precision instrument capable of piercing through maya (illusion) and accessing higher dimensions of reality. This focused consciousness allows the practitioner to not only perceive subtle patterns but actively participate in shaping future possibilities through directed thought-force.
Meditation serves as the scientific bridge connecting the physical brain, subtle mind, and eternal soul with Universal Intelligence or Cosmic Consciousness. Through systematic meditation practice, one develops the ability to project awareness beyond physical limitations while maintaining clear consciousness. This process resembles developing acute hearing to distinguish a subtle violin melody within a full orchestra - the practitioner must learn to silence mental noise and emotional turbulence to perceive spiritual truths clearly.
The meditative journey unfolds through four distinct stages: Concentration (dharana) involves mastering personality impulses and developing sustained attention; Meditation (dhyana) entails deep contemplation of specific objects or qualities until their essence is revealed; Contemplation (samyama) leads to direct perception of underlying principles and universal laws; and Adoration (samadhi) culminates in complete unity with Divine Consciousness. Through persistent practice, one evolves from being controlled by external forces to conscious partnership with Divine Intelligence.
The awakening extends beyond the Third Eye to activate the throat chakra (vishuddha), associated with the thyroid gland and creative expression. As soul consciousness strengthens, it draws kundalini energy upward from muladhara (base chakra) to the throat, enabling inspired creative work and clear communication of spiritual insights. Progressive development activates all seven major chakras corresponding to endocrine glands, each opening new dimensions of perception and experience, ultimately leading to complete Cosmic Consciousness.
This spiritual technology isn't pursued for acquiring supernatural abilities (siddhis) but for direct realization of truth. When the Third Eye fully awakens, dependency on belief systems and second-hand knowledge dissolves into immediate perception of reality. The practitioner gains first-hand understanding of universal laws and conscious participation in the creative processes of existence.
Kapitel 8
First Steps to Mastery: Practical Wisdom for Seekers
Mastery begins with understanding that the Ego chooses before birth the experiences needed for spiritual development. Rather than avoiding life's difficulties, the intelligent seeker discovers what lesson they must learn and may accelerate growth through deliberate training.
The first essential step is putting the mind in order: clearing accumulated mental rubbish, eliminating false values, indecision, and restlessness that drain vitality. Negative emotions physically poison the system-worry, anger, fear and envy harm as surely as toxins. Experiments have shown that venom forms in angry people similar to snake venom. Conversely, spiritual qualities eliminate these poisons: faith makes fear impossible, love leaves no room for hate.
To prepare for spiritual attainment, one must eliminate unnecessary thoughts, desires and habits through honest self-examination: clarifying ideals and beliefs, identifying true ambitions and motivations, acknowledging faults and talents, and evaluating what truly matters.
Possessiveness-one of mankind's Seven Devils-rules us while appearing to serve. Our lives become cluttered with things we believe we need, consuming time and energy. By eliminating unnecessary possessions and thoughts, we can give undivided attention to what truly matters. This concentrated attention becomes all-powerful.
Two essential daily practices aid this mastery: the evening Review, examining each day's events to identify unbalance and growth; and the morning practice of capturing night experiences before they fade. These simple exercises help achieve unbroken consciousness.
The seeker of Truth walks a path filled with pitfalls where character weaknesses will be cunningly assailed. Honesty-about oneself, one's purpose, and others-serves as the essential talisman for recognizing Truth. Two primary obstacles derail seekers: love of sensationalism and laziness. Discovering Truth requires discipline comparable to mastering an instrument.
The wise person exhibits unmistakable qualities: humility, peace, poise, strength, and freedom from fear and emotional instability. Their voice resonates without shrillness, and their presence never exhausts others. They speak sparingly of spiritual matters, never request money for teaching, respect others' free will, and rarely use "I."
There is no evil influence that can affect anyone who doesn't contain the same vibration within themselves. Complete honesty and wholehearted trust in good makes one untouchable to negative forces. Fear, laziness, and lack of sincerity are the defects that lead seekers onto the "left-hand path," requiring twice the work to reach their true goal.
Kapitel 9
The Coming Golden Age: Humanity's Spiritual Destiny
Humanity progresses through recurring cycles of Golden Age, Dark Age, and Age of Energy, each time on a higher level. Having passed through an unprecedented depth of ignorance, we now approach a Golden Age of deeper fulfillment. According to astrological patterns, our sun passes through each zodiac sign in reverse order over approximately 2500 years, creating "Ages." The Age of Aries corresponded to the Jewish Dispensation, the Christian Dispensation occurred under Pisces (the Fish), and we're now entering the Aquarian Age, promising Universal Brotherhood.
The resurrection of the Ancient Wisdom began in the late nineteenth century with H.P. Blavatsky's inspired research and the founding of Theosophy. Since then, numerous teachers and communities worldwide have contributed to a growing spiritual movement. Progress was initially hampered by separatism between groups, but now there's an increasing call for worldwide unity and brotherhood.
The Aquarian Age is already manifesting through increasing individualization-seen in everything from personal creativity to growing independence across all social strata. Even current global conflicts represent necessary upheaval before cleansing can occur. A higher teaching is gradually permeating various spiritual centers, subtly drawing them closer together.
From a scientific perspective, following spiritual teachings would eliminate the auto-intoxication humans create through fear, anger, worry, and envy-the breeding ground for war and cruelty. Developing the stronger vibrations of love, hope, faith, and intellect would create perfect health, natural population balance, and increased mental capacity for solving social problems.
The spiritual seeker progresses from studying the self to developing the self to forgetting the self completely. True service becomes their battle-cry, eventually understanding that authentic service is first to "Be"-to become a permanent channel for Wisdom, a fixed power-house radiating illumination without interfering in others' lives.
The vanguard of Universal Brotherhood already challenges the world, and the way is open for anyone wishing to help build the future Golden Age. The world rapidly transitions from Dark Age to Light, with only the fetters of blindness and laziness holding humanity back. We must shake off these fetters and move forward with those achieving their birthright-the triumph of Godhood in human form.
