Alexander Osterwalder is a Swiss business theorist, author, and entrepreneur focused on business model innovation, value propositions, and strategy. He co-created the Business Model Canvas and coauthored Business Model Generation, Value Proposition Design, and The Invincible Company. His work has been widely adopted by organizations, educators, and entrepreneurs worldwide.
Alexander Osterwalder is a Swiss business theorist, entrepreneur, and author whose influence grew out of an unusual blend of doctoral research and public experimentation. He earned his doctorate at HEC Lausanne after becoming preoccupied with a central question: how organizations reinvent the way they create, deliver, and capture value. Rather than keeping that work inside academia, he posted his dissertation online, cultivated a personal blog, shared talks on YouTube, and used those early digital channels to build a following among managers, scholars, and practitioners. That online exchange became a decisive turning point. It led to the crowdfunded and co-created Business Model Generation, developed with Yves Pigneur and 470 contributors from 45 countries, a project that moved Osterwalder from specialist research into global management conversation.
