Geboren: May 26, 1953 – Cienfuegos, Cienfuegos, Cuba
Joe Navarro is a former FBI counterintelligence agent and behavioral analyst who writes on body language, human behavior, interviewing, and leadership. His notable books include What Every BODY Is Saying, The Dictionary of Body Language, and Three Minutes to Doomsday. His 14 books are available in 32 languages, with What Every BODY Is Saying selling over one million copies.
Joe Navarro’s career began in displacement and observation. Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, in 1953, he arrived in the United States as a child refugee shortly after the Bay of Pigs invasion, carrying little English but a sharpened sensitivity to gesture, tone, and intent. That early need to read rooms before he could fully read words became a durable habit. At 23, he was recruited into the FBI, where he spent the next quarter century in counterintelligence and counterterrorism and later became a founding member of the bureau’s Behavioral Analysis Program. Along the way he completed a master’s degree in international relations at Salve Regina University, giving academic structure to a professional life already centered on behavior, power, and risk.
