Jenny Han is an American young adult novelist and screenwriter whose work centers on coming-of-age, romance, and family. She is best known for The Summer I Turned Pretty and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogies, both adapted for screen; Han is also a New York Times bestselling author with broad international readership.

Jenny Han built her career by treating adolescence as a serious literary subject rather than a minor one. Raised in Richmond, Virginia, she graduated from Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School, went on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and began writing the book that became Shug after taking a children’s-writing class there. She later moved to New York for an MFA in creative writing at the New School and worked as a librarian, experiences that kept her close to young readers and to the emotional textures of growing up.
