Evie Woods is an Irish novelist whose fiction blends mystery, historical elements, and gentle magical realism. She is best known for The Lost Bookshop, an international bestseller, and for stories centered on books, memory, and self-discovery that have brought her a broad global readership.
Evie Woods, the pen name of Galway-born writer Evie Gaughan, came to fiction by an indirect route. Raised in Galway, she has said that childhood periods in hospital helped make books a source of comfort and escape. She later studied business and marketing, spent a year in Toulouse on the Erasmus programme, and in her twenties lived and worked in Canada. A decisive turning point came when panic attacks and social anxiety forced her to reassess her life. Returning to Ireland, she found both solace and direction in reading, especially through authors such as Maeve Binchy and Marian Keyes, and then in Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way, which helped her begin to imagine writing as a real vocation.
