Esther Hicks is an American inspirational speaker and author known for channeling “Abraham” and popularizing New Thought ideas about manifestation and the law of attraction. With Jerry Hicks, she coauthored Ask and It Is Given, The Law of Attraction, Money, and The Vortex, influencing a large self-help audience through books and seminars.
Esther Hicks built her public career from a background far removed from the spiritual-publishing world. In interviews, she has described growing up in a small Utah town in a Mormon family, with family life shaped in part by her mother’s serious heart illness. Public biographies emphasize practical work more than formal schooling; before her national visibility, she worked as a bookkeeper. A decisive turning point came after she met Jerry Hicks in Fresno in 1976 and married him four years later. In Phoenix in the mid-1980s, she said meditative sessions led to the teachings she attributes to “Abraham,” and by 1986 the couple had begun private consultations built around that voice.
