Chetan Bhagat is an Indian author, columnist, and screenwriter known for accessible English-language fiction about young Indians, romance, ambition, and social change. His bestselling novels include Five Point Someone, 2 States, and The 3 Mistakes of My Life; several have been adapted into major Hindi films, making him one of India’s most widely read contemporary writers.
Born in Delhi on April 22, 1974, Chetan Bhagat came of age in the aspirational milieu that would later shape much of his fiction. He studied at IIT Delhi and then at IIM Ahmedabad, credentials that placed him squarely inside India’s high-performance educational culture before he moved into international investment banking. Yet his shift toward authorship was not sudden. While still in finance, he wrote consistently around a demanding corporate life, turning lived experience into material: academic pressure, ambition, friendship, romance, and the anxieties of upward mobility in modern India.
