출생: December 25, 1925 – Cajamarca, Cajamarca, Peru
Carlos Castaneda was a Peruvian-born American writer and anthropologist best known for The Teachings of Don Juan and a series of bestselling books on shamanism, altered states, and Yaqui-inspired spirituality. His work sold millions of copies and was translated widely, while also drawing enduring controversy over its factual and ethnographic credibility.
Carlos Castaneda became one of the most enigmatic literary figures of the late twentieth century. Born in Cajamarca, Peru, on December 25, 1925, he later moved to the United States in 1951 and studied anthropology at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he earned a Ph.D. in 1973. Even the outline of his early life remained unstable, because he gave conflicting autobiographical accounts and deliberately encouraged uncertainty about his origins. According to his own narrative, the decisive turning point came in the early 1960s, when fieldwork on medicinal plants led him to Don Juan Matus, the Yaqui teacher whose lessons became the basis of his books. By 1965 he was back in Los Angeles, shaping those experiences into prose that blurred ethnography, memoir, and metaphysical instruction. ((https://www.britannica.com/biography/Carlos-Castaneda))
