Andrew McAfee is a technology and business scholar focused on how digital tools, AI, automation, and platforms reshape companies and economies. A principal research scientist at MIT Sloan, he is known for Enterprise 2.0, The Second Machine Age, Machine, Platform, Crowd, and More from Less, which have influenced debates on digital transformation.
Andrew McAfee’s path began in Indiana, where, by his own account, he was a bookish, math-camp-going child captivated by the first personal computers. MIT became the central setting of his education: he arrived in 1984, earned two bachelor’s and two master’s degrees, worked briefly, then left for Harvard Business School, where he completed a doctorate in business administration and spent about a decade on the faculty. His return to MIT in 2009 became the pivotal turn of his career, anchoring him as a principal research scientist and co-founder of the Initiative on the Digital Economy.
