It serves as a specialized version of the Alnico II Pro, fine-tuned to match the unique sonic characteristics of Slash's most famous performances.
Although Slash used Alnico II Pros for years, he found that installing them in his 2010 Gibson signature model resulted in a sound that was brighter and thinner than his original recordings. The APH-2 was created to fix this discrepancy, providing the warmth and depth missing from the standard pickups. It was engineered to account for differences in guitar construction, ensuring players could achieve that legendary thick sound without losing necessary note clarity.
