The electrochemical meat computer is a term used to describe the human brain, a complex biological system made of ions, amino acids, and peptides. Despite having the consistency of toothpaste and weighing about as much as a half gallon of milk, this organ is responsible for creating your entire reality, including your memories, talents, and personality. It is the most complex biological system known to science, functioning as a physical structure that defines who you are.

The human brain is a significant power hog, consuming twenty percent of the body's total energy despite making up only about two percent of total body weight. It is constantly hungry for glucose and demands fifteen percent of the body's cardiac output. Interestingly, even when performing difficult cognitive tasks like solving math problems or learning a new language, the brain's energy consumption only increases by approximately five percent over its baseline metabolic rate.

Physically, the brain has the consistency of toothpaste and is composed of fatty little globules packed with amino acids and peptides. If you were to unwrinkle the brain's surface, it would be roughly the size of a large pizza. This specific arrangement of matter distinguishes it from other organs like the lungs or liver, as it serves as the biological foundation for cognitive function and the physical manifestation of the human mind.
