    Alcohol acts as a diuretic, which means it forces more frequent urination and leads to a net loss of fluids. When you consume alcohol in high temperatures, it suppresses an antidiuretic hormone called vasopressin that normally helps your kidneys balance body fluids. This process accelerates dehydration because your body flushes out the water it needs to produce sweat, which is your primary natural cooling mechanism for staying safe in the heat.

    Vasopressin is a critical antidiuretic hormone that works directly with your kidneys to keep your body fluids balanced. Under normal conditions, it signals the body to hold onto necessary water. However, certain summer drinks can suppress this hormone, giving the kidneys a green light to flush out fluids. This disruption of kidney function makes it much harder for the body to stay hydrated and cool itself down effectively when temperatures reach triple digits.

    Drinking diuretics like alcohol or iced coffee in extreme heat creates a dangerous physiological trap. While you may feel like you are hydrating, these substances actually trigger fluid loss. In 100-degree heat, your body is already losing moisture through sweat to stay cool. Adding a diuretic accelerates this loss by increasing urination, leading to a rapid depletion of the fluids required for your body's internal cooling systems to function properly.
