Unlike road races where pace and heart rate zones are consistent, ultrarunning involves variables like muscle fiber destruction on descents and the impact of altitude. To succeed, runners must dismantle the measurement trap and look beyond the standard metrics used by 5k or marathon runners to truly understand their performance.
