    Lena : Dis, Miles, je suis tombée sur un article qui m'a fait tiquer. On y parlait d'un ancien nazi, Léon Degrelle, qui est mort en exil en Espagne en 1994, à presque 90 ans, sans jamais avoir été inquiété par la justice belge. Ça m'a fait réfléchir : aujourd'hui, en 2026, on continue parfois de traquer des centenaires pour des faits qui datent de plus de quatre-vingts ans. Je me demande si ça a encore un sens judiciaire, au fond.

    Miles : Ah, le cas Degrelle, c'est l'exemple type. Le mec était un haut gradé de la Waffen SS, un vrai "ultra" de la collaboration. Pour moi, la question ne se pose même pas : le crime contre l'humanité est imprescriptible. Si on arrête de chercher, on envoie quel message ? Que si tu cours assez vite et que tu vis assez vieux, on finit par oublier tes massacres ?

    Lena : Je ne dis pas qu'on oublie, loin de là. Mais regarde le procès de Nuremberg : à l'époque, en 1945, les mecs somnolaient déjà dans le box des accusés à cause de la lenteur des traductions. Alors imagine aujourd'hui, avec des accusés qui ont parfois des troubles cognitifs... Est-ce qu'on ne transforme pas la justice en une sorte de mise en scène symbolique un peu vaine ? À un moment, la prescription, c'est aussi reconnaître que le temps a fait son œuvre.

    Miles : Justement, le temps ne change pas l'horreur des faits. À Nuremberg, quand ils ont projeté les films des camps, le procureur Jackson disait que "l'enfer avait répandu son souffle sur le prétoire". Ce souffle-là, il ne s'éteint pas avec l'âge du criminel. Juger, même tard, c'est une barrière contre le négationnisme qui, lui, est toujours bien vivant.

    Lena : Pas faux, mais il y a un côté acharnement qui me dérange. On juge des ombres. Et c'est là que ça devient vraiment complexe quand on regarde l'impact sur les descendants...
