While working as an instrument doctor for Prince Ferdinando de' Medici in Florence, Italy, he developed a big idea to change how keyboard instruments worked. He is credited with the invention of the piano, creating a revolutionary instrument that allowed musicians to control volume in a way that was previously impossible.
Before Cristofori's invention, keyboard instruments like the harpsichord were limited because their volume was stuck on one setting, much like a flashlight with only one brightness level. Cristofori wanted to create a magic harp that could do something no other instrument could do at the time. His invention allowed the player to make the music whisper like a mouse or roar like a lion by playing both soft and loud.
