As seventh fire people, we must look for the shkitagen among us-those who've held the spark that cannot be extinguished, waiting to be breathed into life. Shkitagen is a fungus that grows on birch trees, valued as a firekeeper-once an ember meets shkitagen, it won't extinguish but smolders slowly, holding heat. Even the smallest spark will be nurtured in its matrix. We need open eyes, open minds, hearts open enough to embrace our more-than-human kin, and trust in both Earth's generosity and our capacity to reciprocate.
