Dutch teens begin sex education at age four, focusing on body awareness and respect, and consequently become sexually active later than Americans, have fewer partners, use more contraception, and report more positive first experiences.
All-male groups can sometimes foster aggression and misogyny. When considering colleges, boys should investigate alternatives to Greek life and research fraternity reputations thoroughly. Fraternity members are up to three times more likely to commit sexual assault, often because fraternities validate pre-existing problematic attitudes. Similarly, athletes are overrepresented in sexual misconduct cases. Coaches must establish zero tolerance for degrading talk about women, sexual misconduct, and homophobic language. Research shows that coach-led discussions about respect and consent significantly reduce dating violence among high school athletes.
