Mary Kubica is an American novelist known for psychological suspense centered on family secrets, missing persons, and domestic deception. She is the author of The Good Girl, Pretty Baby, Every Last Lie, and Local Woman Missing. Her thrillers have appeared on bestseller lists and been translated into more than thirty languages.
Mary Kubica’s career grew out of private, disciplined beginnings rather than a public literary platform. A committed reader from childhood, she has pointed to libraries, bedtime reading, and Tuck Everlasting as early influences on her imagination. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in History and American Literature from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and worked as a high school history teacher before moving fully into fiction. For a long stretch, writing remained almost entirely personal: while raising young children, she wrote in brief windows during naps and early mornings, and even many relatives did not know she was working on a novel until her debut sold.
