    Im menschlichen Gehirn befinden sich etwa 86 Milliarden Nervenzellen. Miles erklärt im Podcast, dass dies weitaus mehr Zellen sind, als es Menschen auf der Erde gibt. Jede dieser einzelnen Zellen ist über Synapsen mit tausenden anderen verknüpft, was ein gigantisches, komplexes Netzwerk bildet, das ständig unter Strom steht und Informationen verarbeitet.

    Obwohl das Gehirn mit etwa 1300 bis 1400 Gramm nur einen kleinen Teil des Körpergewichts ausmacht, ist es extrem ressourcenintensiv. Lena erläutert, dass dieses Superorgan rund 20 Prozent des gesamten Sauerstoffs und der Energie des Körpers beansprucht. Es fungiert wie ein Hochleistungsrechner, der selbst im Schlaf niemals in den Standby-Modus geht und kontinuierlich weiterarbeitet.

    Das Gehirn ist ein hochempfindliches System, das besonderen Schutz benötigt. Wie Lena und Miles besprechen, schwimmt das Gehirn im sogenannten Liquor, auch Gehirnwasser genannt. Diese Flüssigkeit wirkt wie ein eingebauter Stoßdämpfer oder ein schützender Pool, der das Organ vor Erschütterungen bewahrt und sicherstellt, dass die komplexen Strukturen im Inneren des Schädels unbeschadet bleiben.
