Mais en discutant avec un pote dont les parents sont profs, je me suis demandé si on n'avait pas tous des sacs à dos un peu plus ou moins chargés au départ, tu vois ?

    Eli : Bah, tu mets le doigt sur le gros dossier des SES : la mobilité sociale. En gros, c'est l'idée de savoir si on peut bouger dans la hiérarchie par rapport à nos parents. Et figure-toi que des gens ont regardé les chiffres de près, notamment une étude de Sicsic sortie il y a deux ou trois ans.

    Blythe : Ah ouais ? Et ça dit quoi ? On bouge vraiment ou c'est un mythe ?

    Eli : Bah, c'est nuancé. Le chiffre qui marque, c'est la corrélation « rang-rang » : elle est de 0,25 en France. Ça veut dire que ta position dans l'échelle des revenus dépend quand même pas mal de celle de tes parents. D'ailleurs, un fils de cadre a trois fois plus de chances de finir dans les 20 % les plus riches qu'un fils de famille modeste.

    Eli : Pas forcément bloqué, non. Il y a ce qu'on appelle la mobilité structurelle, genre quand l'économie change et crée plus de postes de cadres, ça force les gens à bouger. Mais pour comprendre pourquoi certains grimpent et d'autres pas, faut qu'on regarde ce qui se passe du côté de l'école et de la famille. C'est là que ça devient vraiment intéressant.
