Join Jackson and Miles as they discuss Depleted Dad Syndrome and how to replace the myth of work-life balance with healthy boundaries for better fatherhood.

Presence is a gift that requires a discipline of boundaries. You don't need twelve hours a day to be a great dad, but if the two hours you have are phone-free and engaged, that beats six hours of being a distracted ghost.
I’m a coach that helps burned out Dad’s get out of their funk and start knocking out their goals while being present with their families. I’m needing a brief straight to the point lesson for boundaries and why they’re so important when it comes to knocking out your personal goals and creating the life that you want for your family and by doing that you were living in your purpose.

Depleted Dad Syndrome is a condition where fathers feel like a ghost in their own home, physically present but mentally exhausted. According to Miles, research shows it affects approximately 42% of fathers. It often stems from working long hours while trying to maintain an impossible standard of being the fun dad, leading to a feeling of running on fumes and experiencing significant guilt.
Jackson and Miles argue that the traditional idea of work-life balance is an impossible standard because it implies a static, perfectly level scale. When work demands increase, fathers often feel like they are failing their families. Instead of trying to maintain a 50/50 split that doesn't exist in modern life, they suggest moving away from the balance metaphor entirely to avoid the feeling of constantly losing.
Building boundaries is a more effective strategy than seeking balance. Miles suggests thinking of boundaries as fences rather than a tightrope; while a tightrope is easy to slip from, a fence protects what is inside. By setting these boundaries ahead of time, fathers can protect their mental health and family time, ensuring they are truly present rather than just being a shell of themselves while replaying work meetings.
