生年: January 31, 1935 – Manhattan, New York, United States
Jack Trout was an American marketing strategist and author best known for popularizing brand positioning. He coauthored Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind with Al Ries and wrote books including Marketing Warfare, Trout on Strategy, and Differentiate or Die. His ideas strongly shaped modern branding, advertising, and competitive marketing strategy worldwide.
John Francis “Jack” Trout was born in New York City on January 31, 1935, the son of a salesman, and came of age with a mix of discipline and competition that would later define his business thinking. He graduated from Iona College in New Rochelle, where he played basketball and tennis, and he also served as a Navy aviator. His business career began in the advertising department at General Electric and continued at Uniroyal before a decisive turn: joining Al Ries in the late 1960s. In 1969, Trout introduced the idea of “positioning,” arguing that brands win by claiming a clear place in the customer’s mind, a concept he and Ries later expanded in trade articles and in the 1981 book Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind.
