    Trauma is more than a memory; it is a physical footprint left inside your nervous system. When you experience immense pressure or chronic emotional neglect, your body reacts with a racing heart or shallow breath before your conscious mind can process the event. These experiences can rewire your brain to perceive threats even when you are safe, trapping you in a state of constant survival where your body continues to act as if it is in a war zone.

    You cannot simply think your way out of trauma because of the disconnect between the rational brain and the emotional brain. While your rational brain may understand that you are currently safe in your living room, your emotional brain may still feel like it is under threat. Because the body keeps the score, it will continue to react physically to past experiences regardless of what your conscious mind knows to be true, leading to issues like sensory overload or chronic fatigue.

    The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identifies childhood trauma as the single largest public health issue today. It is considered more costly than major medical conditions like cancer or heart disease. This is because trauma shapes fundamental aspects of life, including how individuals learn, work, and form relationships. The invisible weight of these experiences often manifests as difficulties with focus, perfectionism, and long-term health challenges that affect the broader population.
