    “

The modern attacker isn't just looking to break things; they are looking to move in and stay a while. They aren't just hacking machines anymore; they are hacking the trust you have in your tools.

    Foire aux questions

Initial Access is the critical phase where an outsider successfully becomes an insider by gaining a foothold in a network. It is considered the hardest part of a cyber operation because the attacker is most vulnerable to detection while trying to bypass email gateways, sandboxes, and antivirus software. Once they establish a single beacon or foothold, the attacker can begin moving through the system, often making the target company open the door for them through subtle techniques.

In 2025, the median dwell time—the duration an attacker remains undetected inside a network—increased to 14 days, up from 11 days the previous year. This rise suggests that modern attackers are not simply looking to break systems immediately; instead, they are focused on moving in and staying for an extended period. This shift highlights a growing trend where hackers prioritize persistence and subtle presence over immediate disruption within a compromised environment.

The traditional cybersecurity perimeter, which relied on building a metaphorical big wall around data, is effectively dead because attackers have found ways to bypass these defenses. Rather than trying to 'crack' a firewall through brute force, modern hackers use sophisticated mechanics and techniques like 'ClickFix' to trick users into granting them entry. This shift means that even multi-billion dollar companies with expensive security can suffer a data breach if an attacker successfully navigates the initial access phase.
