Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak were introduced in 1971 by a mutual friend named Bill Fernandez. At the time, Jobs was only sixteen years old. The two bonded quickly over their shared interests in electronics and playing pranks, a partnership that would eventually lay the groundwork for the creation of Apple and its rise to a trillion-dollar empire.
Blue boxes were electronic devices that allowed users to make free long-distance phone calls by mimicking specific tones, such as those from a whistle found in a cereal box. While Steve Wozniak was the electronics wizard who built them, Steve Jobs recognized the business potential, selling approximately two hundred units for $150 each. Jobs later noted that Apple might never have existed without the experience of creating these boxes.
