À propos de l'auteur

Sir Ahmed Salman Rushdie est le célèbre romancier britannico-indien auteur des Versets sataniques et un maître du réalisme magique et de la fiction historique. Né à Mumbai en 1947 et formé à l'Université de Cambridge, Rushdie explore les liens entre les civilisations orientales et occidentales à travers des récits allégoriques et une narration surréaliste.

Les Versets sataniques, son quatrième roman publié en 1988, mêle questionnement philosophique et réalisme magique et a remporté le prix Whitbread. Cependant, sa représentation controversée de thèmes religieux a suscité un débat mondial et a conduit à une fatwa qui a forcé Rushdie à vivre dans la clandestinité pendant des années.

Son deuxième roman, Les Enfants de minuit, a remporté le prix Booker en 1981 et a été nommé à deux reprises « meilleur roman de tous les lauréats » lors des 25e et 40e anniversaires du prix.
