Colin Strohn Woodard est l'auteur à succès du New York Times de The Republic of Pirates (La République des Pirates), historien acclamé et journaliste lauréat du prix Polk, reconnu pour ses récits historiques et son expertise sur le régionalisme nord-américain. Né en 1968, Woodard apporte la rigueur d'investigation d'un journaliste et le talent narratif d'un historien à ce récit historique captivant sur le gang de pirates de Barbe Noire et l'âge d'or de la piraterie dans les Caraïbes au début du XVIIIe siècle.
