Lucinda Kate Riley (1965–2021) était l'auteure à succès de La Sœur disparue et une écrivaine de fiction historique de renom, principalement connue pour sa série internationalement acclamée, Les Sept Sœurs. Née en Irlande du Nord, Riley a commencé sa carrière en tant qu'actrice au cinéma et à la télévision avant de se tourner vers l'écriture à l'âge de 24 ans à la suite d'une maladie.

La Sœur disparue, le septième volet de sa saga épique Les Sept Sœurs, explore les thèmes des secrets de famille, de l'identité et de la découverte de soi à travers des récits historiques méticuleusement documentés se déroulant sur plusieurs continents.

Les livres de Riley ont été traduits en 37 langues et se sont vendus à plus de 30 millions d'exemplaires dans le monde. Elle a reçu le Dutch Platinum Award — une distinction précédemment remportée par J.K. Rowling — pour avoir vendu plus de 300 000 exemplaires d'un seul roman en une année.
