John D. Gartner, PhD, est l'auteur de The Hypomanic Edge: The Link Between (a Little) Craziness and (a Lot of) Success in America et un expert internationalement reconnu de l'hypomanie et du trouble bipolaire. Psychologue clinicien et ancien professeur à la faculté de médecine de l'université Johns Hopkins pendant 28 ans, Gartner se spécialise dans le traitement du trouble bipolaire, du trouble de la personnalité borderline, et dans l'accompagnement d'entrepreneurs et de créatifs de haut niveau. Ses travaux novateurs explorent comment l'hypomanie — un tempérament légèrement maniaque — alimente l'innovation, la prise de risque et le succès dans la culture américaine.

Gartner a obtenu sa licence à l'université de Princeton et son doctorat à l'université du Massachusetts à Amherst, avant de suivre une formation postdoctorale sous la direction du célèbre psychiatre Otto Kernberg au Cornell Medical Center.
