Alain de Botton est l'auteur britannique d'origine suisse de The Course of Love (L'Anthropologie de l'amour) et un philosophe de premier plan spécialisé dans la sagesse quotidienne, les relations et l'intelligence émotionnelle. Né à Zurich en 1969, de Botton apporte des décennies de réflexion sur l'amour et les relations humaines à cette exploration intime des relations à long terme.

Le roman s'appuie sur les thèmes de son best-seller international Essays in Love (1993), vendu à plus de deux millions d'exemplaires, en examinant comment l'amour se transforme et s'approfondit avec le temps plutôt que de simplement s'estomper.
