Ayn Rand (1905–1982), philosophe révolutionnaire et auteure à succès de The Art of Nonfiction, a bouleversé la pensée moderne par sa défense sans compromis de l'individualisme et de l'intérêt personnel rationnel.

Née Alisa Zinovyevna Rosenbaum à Saint-Pétersbourg, en Russie, Rand a fui le communisme soviétique en 1926 pour s'installer aux États-Unis, où elle a développé sa philosophie objectiviste à travers des œuvres séminales telles que La Source vive (1943) et La Grève (1957).
