Yaa Gyasi est l'autrice ghanéenne-américaine de Noire est la couleur (Homegoing), un roman de fiction littéraire primé explorant la race, l'esclavage et le traumatisme générationnel à travers la diaspora africaine. Née au Ghana en 1989 et élevée en Alabama, Gyasi a publié Noire est la couleur à l'âge de 26 ans — un roman historique magistral s'étendant sur trois continents et huit générations.

Son exploration de la lignée et du colonialisme a été inspirée par une visite en 2009 au château de Cape Coast, un fort négrier qui a transformé sa compréhension de la traite transatlantique des esclaves et de la complicité africaine dans l'esclavage. Gyasi a obtenu son MFA de l'Iowa Writers' Workshop.

Son premier roman a remporté le prix John Leonard du National Book Critics Circle, le prix PEN/Hemingway et l'American Book Award. Elle a poursuivi avec Sublime Royaume (Transcendent Kingdom, 2020), examinant la foi et l'addiction au sein d'une famille d'immigrés ghanéens.
