À propos de l'auteur

Joe Abercrombie est l'auteur à succès du New York Times de Deraillé (Before They Are Hanged), le deuxième volet captivant de sa célèbre trilogie La Première Loi, et une voix pionnière de la fantasy « grimdark ».

Né à Lancaster, en Angleterre, en 1974, Abercrombie a étudié la psychologie à l'Université de Manchester avant de travailler comme monteur de films indépendant — un parcours qui a affiné son rythme cinématographique et sa narration axée sur les personnages. La série La Première Loi explore les thèmes de la guerre, du pouvoir et de l'ambiguïté morale à travers des personnages cyniques et à l'humour noir qui détournent les tropes traditionnels de la fantasy héroïque.

Au-delà de la trilogie originale, Abercrombie a écrit des romans indépendants se déroulant dans le même univers, notamment Servir froid, Les Héros et Pays rouge, ainsi que la trilogie L'Âge de la folie et la série pour jeunes adultes La Mer éclatée.
