Alberto Alesina (1957–2025) était un économiste d'origine italienne et titulaire de la chaire Nathaniel Ropes d'économie politique à l'Université de Harvard. Il est l'auteur de Austerity, un ouvrage séminal en économie politique qui a remodelé les débats mondiaux sur la politique budgétaire. Pionnier de la fusion entre l'économie et les sciences politiques, les recherches d'Alesina se sont concentrées sur les déficits budgétaires, les systèmes électoraux et la divergence entre les modèles économiques européen et américain.
