What makes Marxism persistently appealing despite its catastrophic historical failures in the Soviet Union, China, Cuba, and elsewhere? The ideology exploits fundamental aspects of human psychology by providing a seductive framework that allows the disaffected to blame external forces rather than take personal responsibility. Those who feel unsuccessful can attribute their limitations to "systemic oppression" rather than their own choices and actions. This victim mentality creates a powerful sense of moral righteousness-the allegedly oppressed become the real oppressors, wielding disproportionate cultural power despite representing a minority viewpoint.
This psychological manipulation explains why so many corporate leaders, professional athletes, and media figures quickly buckle under pressure from activist groups. Many economic elites have abandoned genuine free-market capitalism for a form of crony statism, partnering with political autocrats to crush competition and secure their financial positions through regulation, subsidies, and barriers to entry. Small businesses suffer while large corporations prosper through government favoritism. Meanwhile, America's "useful idiots" - a term coined by Lenin for naive Western sympathizers - remain unalarmed by tyranny's approach, unable to believe their country could succumb to Marxist despotism despite growing evidence of institutional capture and erosion of constitutional principles.

Today's Antifa movement provides a striking example of this pattern - participants become indistinguishable "soldiers" in identical black clothing, thoroughly indoctrinated in Marxist-anarchist ideology and trained in confrontational tactics and violence. Similarly, Black Lives Matter presents its public face as a black liberation movement while actually pursuing a broader neo-Marxist agenda aimed at fundamental societal transformation. Both movements, like all mass movements throughout history, cannot tolerate competing ideas or dissenting voices, demanding strict ideological conformity from both adherents and society at large.
This enforced orthodoxy has metastasized throughout modern culture in the form of "cancel culture," systematically attacking individualism through coordinated campaigns of firing, public shaming, social media banning, and personal intimidation of anyone who questions the movement's mission or methods. The intellectual foundations for these contemporary movements can be traced back to philosophers like Rousseau, Hegel, and Marx - influential thinkers who advocated subjugating individual rights and freedoms to an abstract "general will" or "collective good."
Mass movements consistently attract psychologically damaged individuals who find purpose not in personal growth or achievement, but in self-renunciation and submission to the collective. As Eric Hoffer insightfully explained in "The True Believer," these movements are characteristically angry and gloomy, expressing particular hostility toward happy, successful individuals who might challenge their narrative of societal corruption. This explains why college students joined violent uprisings in 2020, having been indoctrinated to "join the revolution" led by groups like BLM and Antifa.

Critical Race Theory (CRT) represents the most influential application of Critical Theory in contemporary America. According to Heritage Foundation scholars, CRT promotes Marxist analysis of society divided into oppressors and oppressed, demands re-education of those adhering to traditional beliefs, seeks to dismantle societal norms through relentless criticism, and aims to replace all systems of power with a worldview describing only oppressors and oppressed.
CRT begins with the presumption that race is the primary identifier of people, positing a racial hierarchy with whites on top and blacks at the bottom. It claims all whites must admit their culpability in white supremacy and cannot hide behind personal histories of non-discrimination or race-neutral policies. Under CRT, whites must support various forms of race preferences for non-whites indefinitely, even where whites are a local minority.
Derrick Bell, a Harvard law professor considered CRT's founding father, rejected most civil rights advances, including Brown v. Board of Education and concepts of color-blindness and equal opportunity, arguing they merely masked ongoing racism. Bell dismissed critics as "steeped in theory and deathly afraid of experience," claiming any criticism merely proved his point about systemic racism.
Dr. Wyatt Tee Walker, Martin Luther King Jr.'s chief of staff and civil rights legend, emphatically rejected CRT. In a 2015 essay, Walker argued that CRT takes us "in the wrong direction" by "separating even elementary school children into explicit racial groups, and emphasizing differences instead of similarities." This New York Times initiative reframes American history by claiming 1619 (when slaves first arrived in Jamestown) as America's true founding rather than 1776. Through partnership with the Pulitzer Center, this curriculum has been distributed to over 3,500 schools. Five distinguished historians publicly criticized the project for factual errors, including its false claim that the American Revolution was fought "to ensure slavery would continue."

Meanwhile, eco-Marxists like George Gonzalez argue that Marx's writings contain "a thorough ecological critique of capitalism."
Ayn Rand exposed the environmental movement's true purpose forty years ago: destroying capitalism and establishing global dictatorship. She noted how environmentalists shifted from condemning capitalism for creating poverty to condemning it for creating abundance, trading Marx's pseudo-scientific determinism for "birds, bees and beauty." They fail to recognize that nature provides virtually infinite matter and energy that human ingenuity can progressively master.

The "public journalism" movement has abandoned objectivity in favor of activism. Professors like Michael Schudson, Theodore Glasser, and Jay Rosen have transformed journalism education by promoting a "fair-minded participant" model that rejects neutrality. Their true agenda was exposed during Trump's candidacy when they openly advocated for journalists to abandon traditional standards to oppose him.

A pervasive reign of ideological terror has spread throughout society, resulting in the cancellation of numerous individuals and cultural elements. The Democratic Party has taken an increasingly direct role in promoting censorship, moving beyond mere support for private sector actions. House Democrats Anna Eshoo and Jerry McNerney sent threatening letters to cable and streaming companies demanding to know why they carried Fox News, One America News Network, and Newsmax, citing partisan "studies" claiming these networks spread misinformation. This deliberate degrading of police forces has destabilized communities, undermined the rule of law, and led to soaring murder rates.
Particularly pernicious is American Marxists' control over education, with full support from teachers' unions like NEA and AFT. Children are being taught to hate America through racist propaganda in K-12 schools, where Critical Race Theory has spread rapidly. The fate of our country rests in our hands. Despite sometimes bleak prospects, we must never surrender to enemies from within. We must organize, rally, boycott, protest, speak and write-becoming the new "community activists" driven by patriotism rather than Marxism.
Patriots must adopt operational tactics against corporations and organizations funding Marxist movements. This includes boycotting corporate media, Big Tech, and institutions promoting American Marxism; pressuring financial entities to withdraw investments from Marxist movements; and pushing local governments to end taxpayer subsidies for institutions with ties to Marxist policies.
Local committees of patriotic community activists must organize in every school district. These committees should attend all school board meetings in large numbers, examine classroom curricula and textbooks, and ensure transparency through freedom of information procedures when necessary. Contracts with teachers' unions should prevent classroom indoctrination with Critical Race Theory and other Marxist ideologies.
Americans must practice "patriotic commerce" by becoming informed consumers who support businesses aligned with their values while boycotting hostile corporations. When companies like Goya face leftist boycotts, patriots should rally with purchases. Shareholders should attend meetings to challenge corporate activism, using resources from organizations like the Free Enterprise Project.
General George S. Patton's wisdom guides the final call to action: "Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity."
