Sarah Knight’s public career grew out of a long apprenticeship inside publishing. A Harvard graduate, she spent about fifteen years in New York working as an editor at major houses, including Macmillan and Simon & Schuster, where she later helped oversee the Simon451 imprint. That background mattered: it gave her both a sharp sense of audience and a practical understanding of how books actually function in readers’ lives. The major turning point came in 2015, when she left corporate publishing, went freelance, and shifted from being an editor behind the scenes to writing in her own voice from the Caribbean, a move that reshaped the rest of her career.
