J.R.R. Tolkien was an English writer, philologist, and Oxford professor whose work centered on mythology, language, and epic fantasy. Biographie et Parcours de l'Auteur

J.R.R. Tolkien was born in 1892 in Bloemfontein, in what was then the Orange Free State, and was taken to England as a small child after his father’s death. His mother’s later death left him and his brother under guardianship, an early experience of loss that shaped the emotional undertones of his fiction. He was educated at King Edward’s School in Birmingham and later at Exeter College, Oxford, where he studied classics before turning to English language and literature. From early on, he showed an unusual fascination with words, sound, and the deep histories of language. That scholarly interest became central to both his academic life and his imaginative work.
