Frank Herbert was an American science fiction author best known for Dune, a landmark novel exploring ecology, politics, religion, and power. He wrote six Dune books and numerous other works. Dune won the first Nebula Award for Best Novel and shared the 1966 Hugo Award, becoming one of science fiction’s most influential series.

Biographie et Parcours de l'Auteur

Frank Herbert, born Franklin Patrick Herbert Jr. in Tacoma, Washington, in 1920, came to writing through journalism rather than academia. He worked as a newspaper reporter and editor, served briefly in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and later studied at the University of Washington without taking a degree. That practical, reportorial background mattered: it trained him to observe institutions, question official narratives, and connect human motives to larger systems. His early adult life was shaped as much by deadlines and field research as by literary ambition, and those habits would become central to his fiction.
