Elliot Aronson

Elliot Aronson is an American social psychologist whose work centers on cognitive dissonance, social influence, prejudice reduction, and education. He wrote the bestselling book The Social Animal and helped develop the Jigsaw Classroom, a widely adopted desegregation method. Aronson received major honors from the American Psychological Association for research, teaching, and writing.

Biographie et Parcours de l'Auteur

Elliot Aronson was born in Revere, Massachusetts, in 1932 and grew up in Depression-era poverty in a neighborhood where, as a Jewish boy, he often encountered antisemitic harassment. He later described himself as shy and only a middling student, but his older brother Jason urged him toward college, and a scholarship carried him to Brandeis. There, an introductory psychology class taught by Abraham Maslow redirected him from economics to psychology. He went on to earn an M.A. at Wesleyan under David McClelland and a Ph.D. at Stanford under Leon Festinger. Those mentors helped shape the blend of humanistic concern and experimental rigor that became his signature. He later taught at Harvard, the University of Minnesota, the University of Texas, and the University of California, Santa Cruz. ((https://news.ucsc.edu/2010/09/aronson-memoir.html))
