Born in Manhattan and raised in Hoboken, New Jersey, she studied political science at Barnard College with a focus on religion and ethnonationalism, then worked for a refugee resettlement organization, a U.S. senator, and an AI robotics startup. Those experiences fed a body of work preoccupied with power, belief, exile, and contested identity. A key turning point came through the online writing world: Reid has said she came up through Pitch Wars, where mentor Isabel Ibañez and the community around the program helped set The Wolf and the Woodsman on its path to publication.
