He literally put his life on the line to prove his invention, all while having to hide his true identity just to make a sale.

This was the real-world test. They were digging a tunnel five miles out under Lake Erie, 120 feet below the surface. They hit a pocket of natural gas and—boom. An explosion trapped dozens of workers.

Finally, in the middle of the night, someone remembered Garrett Morgan and his "breathing device." They called him at home.
