I'm a 10th standard student who is learning probability in additional mathematics igcse. I need clarity on this concept please explain with examples.







Combined events occur when two or more separate actions, such as spinning two wheels or picking multiple tokens, happen together. Unlike single-event probability where you calculate the odds of one action, combined events require you to look at how these separate events collide. This moves the mathematical focus from a single outcome to a sequence of events, often described as what happens now and then.
When you add a second action to a probability problem, the complexity expands rather than just doubling. In single-event probability, you might have a simple one in ten chance of picking a specific token. However, adding a second event increases the number of pieces to keep track of, making it essential to accurately map out all possible mathematical outcomes to avoid common mistakes.
The fundamental rule for 10th-grade Additional Maths students remains consistent: you must count how many specific outcomes fit your goal versus the total number of things that could possibly happen. While the math itself may not be harder, the challenge lies in tracking the expanded set of outcomes that emerge when events are combined, as simple guessing often leads to errors.
