The Nightstalkers team consists of three iconic characters from the Marvel Supernatural Universe: Blade the vampire hunter, Hannibal King, and Frank Drake. Hannibal King is a private investigator who is also a vampire, while Frank Drake is a descendant of Count Dracula himself. These three men first crossed paths in the classic seventies series, The Tomb of Dracula, before officially forming their own team in the early nineties.
Borderline Investigations is the professional front used by the Nightstalkers. While the name might sound like a mundane insurance firm, it actually serves as the headquarters for Blade, Hannibal King, and Frank Drake. From this office, the trio operates as a specialized team of investigators and vampire hunters, dealing with the dangerous things that go bump in the night within the supernatural side of Marvel.
Doctor Strange played the role of a puppet master in the formation of the Nightstalkers in 1992. Rather than acting as a simple mentor, the Sorcerer Supreme manipulated Blade, Hannibal King, and Frank Drake into a formal team during the events of Nightstalkers #1. Strange had a very specific and secret reason for forcing these three traumatized individuals together to protect the Marvel Supernatural Universe.
