Técnicamente, esto se logra mediante la escucha activa, el uso de paráfrasis para asegurar la comprensión y el "desarme verbal", que consiste en reconocer los puntos válidos de la crítica ajena para transformar una pelea en una colaboración.

    La flexibilidad psicológica es la capacidad de dejar de pelear contra pensamientos o emociones difíciles, aceptando su presencia en lugar de intentar controlarlos rígidamente. El script compara la rigidez mental con intentar boxear contra el humo: lo que agota no es el humo, sino el esfuerzo de golpearlo. La ternura, en este sentido, se considera la forma más pura de inteligencia porque permite comprender al otro sin ejercer violencia.

    El ego actúa como un blanco que los demás pueden golpear; si tienes un ego gigante que proteger, eres más vulnerable a los ataques. La humildad se presenta como una herramienta técnica de combate: si no hay un ego rígido que defender, el ataque del otro no tiene donde aterrizar. Al ser "como el aire", el oponente se cansa intentando golpear algo que no ofrece resistencia, lo que permite conservar la energía propia y mantener el control de la situación.
